On the 19th February I taught my mum the box method for multiplication. We were trying to work out 57 times 35 we got the answer 1,995 and here is how we worked it out.

Te Whare Wananga o Te Maro

The three main parts of the Whare
Tahuhu - Backbone
Heke - Ribs
Mâtenga - Head

The Whare is shaped the way it is because
It is made after a Maori ancestor or god and the
Whare always faces northwards to the sun

The purpose of the Whare is
In one tradition, the Whare is seen as a metaphor for the world. On the outside of the house is Te Pō, or darkness. On the inside is Te Ao Mārama (the world of light). The floor represents Papatūānuku (the earth mother). It is connected by the posts of the house to the ridgepole. This symbolises the connection between her and Ranginui (the sky father).

Valentines Day

St Valentines was a Roman priest who was secretly organising weddings for soldiers. He was jailed then sentenced to death by the King on February 14th AD 270. We exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers, with our special valentines. A special valentine is someone that you love.

American spend up to 3.6 billion dollars on Valentines gift each year. 50 million roses are sold each year on Valentines Day. 73% of people who buy flowers for Valentines day are men and 27% are women.15% of the US women send themselves flowers on Valentines day.Eros is the greek god of love and his roman form is Cupid.

Waitangi day

Why are these people carrying this banner?
These people are protesting for there land.
They are carrying the banner saying Honour The Treaty because the treaty of Waitangi was signed on the 6th of February 1840 by 40 Maori chiefs and the pakeha stole the land from the maori and disobeyed the treaty.
